This was a very inspiring post! Thanks to you both for it!! <3
I do have a question, for someone who will probably always be working remote, what do you think would be the best way to actually connect with your co-workers and like actually be able to be apart of the work community? Cause I feel like that would be an issue for a remote worker, right?
You're right, connecting with others can definitely be a challenge when remote.
Now most remote companies organize online social events, like pizza nights, Friday after work drinks, etc. These are all virtual but provide a great opportunity to connect with people. I would say use them as much as you can. Make sure you don't miss them, and make an effort to connect with others during an event like this (be chatty, enthusiastic, curious about other people's lives, etc)
Besides that, even if remote it's very likely you'll get the opportunity to attend a social in person event. Many companies organize at least one of these every year. In most cases they'll cover travel expenses and even accommodation. So if you're offered the opportunity to do these, definitely take it.
In summary, take advantage of social events organized by your company. If they don't do any, suggest it or even help organize one!
Makes sense, thanks! I didn't know companies did this, so was uncertain what the work atmosphere would be like if y'know you could never connect in-person.
